Pakistan has become the second country of the world after Bhutan where Punjab Government imposes taxes on consumption of internet. Punjab Government through a civil order has imposed taxes 19.5 percent on 1500 monthly bill or exceeding bill and two megabyte speed per second or exceeding this speed internet connection.Country’s most digital publishers and bloggers have black pages to protest against the government after the implementation of new tax and there is a message written on it against the tax. According to the British broadcaster, internet service provider companies and telecom companies in Pakistan told that the taxes are already imposed on the telecom sector that counts the highest rate in the world. According to the GSM report Pakistan is on the fourth position of the world in the tax rate of telecom industries. Companies said that more taxes impose on this sector not only dangerous for economic development but government is trying to promote the broadband in the country that also dangerous for themselves. New taxes are being implementing on that time when 3G and 4G spectrum has spent only one year of successful auction. In this regard, a telecom company’s public relation officer Sheldon Adam Godinho said that the new tax can not only affect the process of extension of 3G and 4G but also more spectrum auction may affect in the future and companies investment decisions may also affect. Sheldon Adam Godinho said that the government should have taken the companies in confidence before such initiative because telecom companies have already been cooperating with the government at every occasion.Whether it should be block the mobile SIM or bio metric authentication process for security matters. The new tax will impact on the number of internet users and its usage and the people will use only specific websites and the businesses which are mostly dependent on the Internet, they will be affected. According to the blogger the British research institution told that so the government will receive three billion rupees annually through new taxes but on the other side, the heavy taxes will negatively impact on the internet users. It can be loss of national economy during the next five years around one hundred to two hundred billion rupees.
